An exceptional human adventure
Emma describes the 2024 Young Pilots Air Tour as an "ordinary experience" that she will always remember. For two weeks, surrounded by equally passionate young people, she experienced a real adventure. "We shared our experiences and learned to manage fatigue. The days were intense, with many technical briefings that helped us to grow," she recounts.
Each stage of the Tour included an open day. Aircraft were on display to the public, offering visitors the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at aviation. Emma and the other pilots enjoyed explaining how the aircraft worked, demystifying the idea that flying is reserved for an elite. "Everyone can fly", she asserts, delighted to have been able to share her passion with the general public.
Discovering France from the sky
Emma was equally amazed: "We flew over magnificent regions such as Burgundy-Franche-Comté, caught a glimpse of the Loire castles, flew over the bay of Mont Saint Michel and landed in Toulouse, a mythical city for aeronautics," she enthusiastically recalls. These sailings were an opportunity for Emma to step out of her comfort zone and explore horizons she wouldn't have discovered otherwise.
The Air Tour also enabled Emma to discover other aeronautical disciplines such as air rallying and the Air Navigation Race (ANR). "It was a discovery for most of us. With no GPS, just a watch and a road map, we had to follow a precise route. It wasn't easy and many got lost, including my navigator and me," recalls Emma, with a smile. These tests, although complex, were very formative.
Vol en Velis Electro: a grand premiere
One of the highlights of this tour was the discovery of the Velis Electro, Europe's first certified 100% electric aircraft. "I'd been wanting to try this machine for a long time, and I wasn't disappointed. The silence on board is striking, and the piloting is very fine. I hope to be able to fly again in this type of aircraft and see electric aviation develop further", explains Emma, enthusiastic about this technological breakthrough.
