Mathematics courses at INSA in June

INSA and DMATHS, the mathematics department of CERAMATHS, are organizing two courses in June: one for 10th graders from local high schools, the other for female undergraduates from all over France

.

As it does every year, DMATHS, the mathematics department of CERAMATHS, with logistical support from the Centre Gaston Berger of INSA - Hauts-de-France and funding from the Animath association, is organizing a Faire des mathématiques autrement (Doing mathematics differently) course on June 10, 11, 13 and 14. Some forty 10th grade volunteers will be on the INSA premises.

But this year, the same week, there will also be a Maths C pour L course: some twenty female mathematics undergraduates from all over France will come to do mathematics and meet female mathematicians, by profession or at least by training.
The aim is to combat gender stereotypes, and encourage these female students to continue their mathematical studies as far as possible.
The principle of these internships was initiated by the French Ministry of Education. The principle of these internships was initiated last year by the three learned mathematical societies (Société Mathématique de France, Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles, Société Française de Statistique). This year they are also being held in Marseille, Paris and Rennes.

Each of the courses will have a "research" workshop as a common thread: in small groups, trainees will work on open topics, adapted of course to their level of schooling. Second-year students will be accompanied by mathematics undergraduates, they will also meet engineering students, and visit C3T facilities. Female students on the Maths C pour L course will be able to talk to teacher-researchers from UPHF and other universities, a young doctor, a former student of the master's degree in applied mathematics... A number of leisure activities will also be on offer, to take some of the stress out of the working week.

To accompany these two courses, the exhibition "Mathématiques, informatique... avec elles!" will be on view in the hall of the Claudin le Jeune 3 building throughout the week. This exhibition is a creation of the association femmes & mathématiques.
