The GC cluster & the GIM department: a cross-disciplinary, cross-component, cross-cultural discussion

Interdisciplinary (civil engineering & industrial engineering and maintenance), inter-component (civil engineering pole of the Mechanics department & GIM department of the IUT )and inter-cultural (BTPièste culture & industrial culture), such is the format intended by the civil engineering cluster for its seventh and final COM-GC (Causeries Otiumics Mensuelles en Génie Civil) of this academic year. It took place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 10:30am to 12pm in amphitheater A300 at the Abel de Pujol 1 building. It focused on the theme "Critical postures and time".

Baptised, exceptionally, COM'G(CIM) (Causeries Otiumics Mensuelles en Génie (Civil & Industriel et Maintenance), this talk was the occasion for a fruitful dialogue between students in the first year of the civil engineering bachelor's degree from the civil engineering pole (Mechanics department) and those from the GIM department (Génie Industriel et Maintenance) of UPHF's IUT. Indeed, for an hour and a half, each student from the two courses was invited to leave their "disciplinary home" and their "cognitive insularity" to melt into a communicative, (de)siloed, reflexive and, highly, uplifting dynamic. All this with the active participation of a doctoral student in social anthropology, a young doctoral student in SIC (Information and Communication Sciences) and an M2 GCAU trainee (future doctoral student in SIC). What continuity and synergistic symbiosis!

And so, in a very stimulating way, the exchange focused, among other things, on the various critical postures (dogmatism, relativism, nihilism, complotism, skepticism, ...), fake news, the mis-meaning (information), cognitive biases, Bertrand Russell's inductivist turkey, the dromological consequences occasioned by ambient infobesity and TsuNumi (contraction of Tsunami and Digital, in Nicolas Curien's sense), ...

The collaborative fresco on the theme treated, usually co-elaborated at the end of the talk, was, here again exceptionally and by contracting time, co-confectioned in situ by the participating students. A fresco which, in a pure logic of informational sharing with students from other UPHF courses, will be broadcast on the display screens available on UPHF premises until the end of this academic year.

At the "intellectual commensality", enabled by the chat, was invited a "nutritional commensality", made up of pastries-coffee-juice, etc.-to end the year on a high and strong note.
